Aid Programs
International Student Aid
International students may or may not be eligible for federal, state, or institutional need-based aid programs at the University of Florida (UF), depending upon their residency status, as well as their financial need. International students should follow normal application procedures for financial aid at UF through the Office for Student Financial Affairs (SFA), if they are
- U. S. citizens, or
- U. S. nationals (includes natives of American Samoa or Swain's Island).
Students who are not in one of these categories, but who are
- U. S. permanent residents with I-155
- Conditional permanent residents (I-551 C);
- Family unity status recipients with an approved immigrant visa (I-797);
- Eligible noncitizens with an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security showing one of the following designations: "Refugee," "Asylum Granted," "Parolee" or "Cuban-Haitian Entrant ".
should follow normal application procedures for financial aid at UF, but must also provide SFA with a copy of their Alien Registration Receipt Card or Arrival or Departure Record to verify their citizenship status.
Students in the U. S. on an F1 or F2 student visa only or on a J1 or J2 exchange visitor visa only, or on a G- series visa (pertaining to international organizations) are not eligible to receive need-based aid administered by SFA. These students, however, may be eligible for private or college-awarded scholarships administered by agencies other than our office.
To access information on private funding sources, students can link to free scholarship search services such as fastWEB. These scholarship search programs provide students with thousands of listings of scholarships, fellowships, grants, loans, and other awards.
Information on UF college-awarded scholarships is available in the Gator Aid Handbook. A print copy of the Gator Aid Handbook is available from S-107 Criser. College-awarded scholarships are also available under Aid Programs, by selecting Undergraduate Aid or Graduate Aid.
Students interested in obtaining information about graduate assistantships or fellowships should contact the Graduate School or the Dean's office of the department or college through which they are planning to enroll.
UFs International Center may also be able to provide information on other programs that are available to international students. The address is:
