Scholarship loans are available for those who wish to pursue studies in the fields of medicine, professional nursing (associates degree or bachelors level, junior/senior year only), medical technology programs, or theology (Episcopal faith). Applicants must be residents of one of the following Northwest Florida counties: Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, or Walton.
- Manatee County Medical Society Manatee County Medical Education Foundation, Inc. Scholarships will be awarded in amounts of $50 to $2,000 to high school seniors and college students interested in majoring in medicine, nursing, and certain other health-related fields. Selection will be based on career goals, scholarship, character, and financial need. To be eligible applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a legal resident of Manatee County for the past two years, and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Note that preliminary programs, such as pre-med and pre-pharmacy, are not awarded scholarships until a student has completed 60 credit hours of undergraduate study. Children or relatives of Medical Society and Alliance Members are ineligible. When requesting an application include: current level of education; desired felid of medical education; permanent local home address and phone number; and "while at school" address and phone number. Application requests due February 1; returned applications due March 31.
- National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship Program, NHSC Scholarship Program, c/o Discovery Logic, 1375 Piccard Drive, Suite 325, Rockville, MD 20850; 1-800-221-9393. Scholarships are available for students who want to be an allopathic physician, osteopathic physician, dentist, nurse practitioner, physician's assistant, or nurse midwife. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, in a fully accredited U.S. school or program. Award value is tuition, fees, and other reasonable expenses. - National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergarduate Scholarship Program, National Institutes of Health, 2 Center Drive, Room 2E24, MSC 0230, Bethesda, MD 20892-0230. For more information, go to www.ugsp.nih.gov. Scholarships of up to $20,000 are available for undergraduates with economic need. To be eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens, qualified permanent residents, or U.S. nationals; be full-time students from a disadvantaged background; and have a GPA of 3.5 or be within the top 5% of their class. A ten-week paid summer NIH internship and a year of full-time NIH employment for each year of scholarship is required after graduation. Deadline: February 28.
