- U.S. Department of Education-Funded Title VI Foreign Language and Areas Studies (FLAS) Fellowship

Eligibility: academic year fellowships for graduate students pursuing degrees in any discipline with a concentration in African area studies; must enroll in African language study (eligible languages are Akan, Amharic, Arabic, Swahili, Zulu/Xhosa, Wolof, and Yoruba); must be accepted to their department before being considered.

Value: $14,000 plus all tuition/fees renewable for three years
Fellowships

Eligibility: graduate students pursuing degrees with a concentration in African area studies to undertake intensive language study at any USDOE Title VI approved institution.

Eligibility: graduate students in any discipline planning to travel to Africa to conduct pre-dissertation research in preparation to prepare dissertation proposals and/or apply for dissertation research funds.
