    Correspondence Classes

Federal regulations allow correspondence classes taken in addition to regular coursework to be included in determining your enrollment status under the following conditions:

    1. The correspondence work must apply toward your degree or be remedial work taken to help you in your course of study.
    2. To increase your enrollment status for financial aid purposes, the class must be enrolled in, and completed within, the semester in which the hours are used.
    3. The total hours cannot be more than the number of hours you are enrolled through the regular registration system; i.e., if you are enrolled for three credit hours via the regular registration system, the maximum correspondence credit hours you can use to increase your enrollment status for financial aid purposes is three.
    What Must I do?
    1. Submit a Department of Independent Study and Distance Learning Enrollment Verification form to Student Financial Affairs as soon as you have completed first lessons in all courses you would like to have used by SFA to increase enrollment status. Failure to submit Enrollment Verification on time may disqualify or decrease your eligibility for some financial aid programs.

Note: For a correspondence course to be eligible for inclusion in a particular term, some state programs and the Federal Pell Grant require an enrollment date of no later than the last day of the drop/add period.
    2. Submit an Enrollment Verification form to SFA, once you have completed all correspondence work, for a determination of eligibility for inclusion toward your enrollment status. Forms verifying completion of courses must be submitted no later than 5 days after the end of the regular semester.

Also, financial aid may be available for incarcerated students studying by correspondence under certain conditions (link here to the FAQ question on this topic--under "Eligibility." See your financial aid adviser for more information. For more information on correspondence classes, see the UF Division of Continuing Education web site.

    Important:

You MUST see your financial aid adviser as there are very specific deadlines that must be adhered to in order to be eligible for funding.

Financial aid CANNOT BE DISBURSED for correspondence classes until after you have completed and submitted verification of completion of correspondence work, within allotted deadlines, to:
