First Time Borrowers

Direct Loans

First-time Direct Loan borrowers must go to the https://studentaid.govhttps://studentaid.govFederal Student Loans Website to complete online entrance counseling. Direct Loan borrowers must also accept your loan award on https://one.uf.eduhttps://one.uf.eduhttps://one.uf.eduONE.UF. Under “Financial Aid” on the left-hand menu, choose “Awards and Disbursements” for the appropriate academic year. You may also cancel or reduce the amount of your loan.

When the loan is processed, go to the https://studentaid.govhttps://studentaid.govFederal Student Loans Website to either complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) or to verify that one is already on file. Once classes have begun, Federal requirements have been completed, and UF has verified that the student is enrolled at least half-time, UF will disburse these funds to the borrower.

Perkins Loans

Under federal law, the Perkins loan program ended and are no longer available to students.

First-time Federal Perkins Loan borrowers must complete Entrance Counseling before their loans can be disbursed. Entrance and Exit Loan Counseling is required to disburse and collect loans administered through the University of Florida and is mandated by Federal regulation. The counseling is designed to assist the student loan borrower with understanding their rights and obligations in receiving loans and help manage Federal and Institutional Student Loan Funds. Before the start of classes, the University Bursar (UB) will mail instructions on how to complete online Entrance Counseling. For more information, call the UB at (352) 392-0737.

First-time Federal Perkins Loan borrowers must also complete an online Federal Perkins Master Promissory Note (MPN) to receive their loans. The http://www.fa.ufl.edu/bursar/http://www.fa.ufl.edu/bursar/University Bursar mails borrowers instructions on how to sign the online MPN.

To complete Perkins Loan Entrance Counseling and the MPN, it is critical that students verify that their UF Directory mailing address is correct. This is done on the http://my.ufl.edumyUFL System.

Perkins borrowers must also complete the federal Perkins Loan Disclosure/Acceptance process. Perkins Loan “disclosures” are completed on https://one.uf.eduhttps://one.uf.eduhttps://one.uf.eduONE.UF under “Financial Aid” under “Aid Status.” Federal Perkins Loan Acceptance is done on https://one.uf.eduhttps://one.uf.eduhttps://one.uf.eduONE.UF under “Financial Aid” under “Awards and Disbursements.”

Institutional Loans

As a result of the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), students receiving institutional loans (loans for which UF is the guarantor), will now receive loan disclosure documentation before any money can be disbursed.
These disclosures clearly spell out the terms, conditions, and overall cost of each loan the student is accepting.
Each institutional loan has its own disclosure document. Students receiving institutional loans are required to read, sign, and submit the disclosures to SFA and to University Bursar prior to disbursement of the loan funds.

Loan disclosure documentation can be found on the http://www.sfa.ufl.edu/forms/SFA Forms page, in the “Loans” section.
